The problem is especially pronounced under hard braking, when the oil pools at the front of the oil pan under the lateral g-force, allowing the pick-up to run dry. Even a fraction of a second of no oil feed can be enough to do lasting damage to your engine, any longer and it's almost certain to lead to engine failure.
