Cicic Bach (1685-1750)
Description:
Delphian, one of Scotland's leading classical labels, founded in 2000 and awarded the Gramophone Award for "Label of the Year" in 2014, has allocated a memorable 300th catalog number to Bojan Cicic, Croatian baroque violinist Bojan Cicic's Bach! Bojan Cicic is one of the flag-bearers of the new generation of baroque violinists and a rising star of the ancient music world, who has been a concertmaster and core member of the Brecon Baroque, Florilegium, Arcangelo, and Ancient Chamber Orchestras and the EU Baroque Orchestra. Cicich has recorded various unknown Baroque works, but after hearing guitarist Sean Sibe's recording of Bach (PDCD34233) in a 15th century church in Scotland, he decided during his first lockdown to record Bach's great "Partitas & Sonatas" and Decision. In the winter/spring of 2021, with the pandemic not yet over, he traveled to snowy Scotland to explore Bach's austere fugues and luminous partitas. The album is dedicated to Damir Kukulj, a violin professor from Zagreb who died a few months after the recording project was launched, and the booklet includes an essay contributed by Mahan Esfahani, a gifted harpsichordist who also continued to make excellent Bach recordings. Japanese translation is also included in the domestic edition). Tokyo M-Plus
