Schmelzer leads the multinational elite group Grand Lavois of Antwerp. Schmelzer & Grand Lavois, who made a big splash with their recording of Guillaume de Machaut's masterpiece "Notre Dame Mass" (GCDP 32110), will sing a requiem by Orazio Vecchi (1550-1605), an Italian Renaissance musician known as a composer of madrigal comedies. Vecchi's Requiem (Mass for the Dead). Vecchi's Requiem is connected with De la Erle, Ruimonte, Duarte Lobo's Agnus Dei, etc., and represents the funeral music of the Flemish painter Pieter Paul Rubens.
