• The Role of Black Wire: In a DC (Direct Current) system, Black is traditionally used for the Negative (-) return. However, in newer boats following ABYC standards, Yellow is often preferred for DC Negative to avoid confusion with the Black "Hot" wire in an AC system. Check your boat's existing wiring color code before installation.

• Voltage Drop: 14 AWG is excellent for mid-range loads like LED lighting, bilge pumps, and medium-sized electronics. For long runs (over 20 feet), always calculate voltage drop to ensure your gear receives the full 12.6V+ it needs.

• Crimp, Don't Solder: On a boat, vibration can cause solder joints to crack. Use Ancor heat-shrink connectors to create a mechanical, watertight bond that won't fail in heavy seas.
