Philodendron camposportoanum is a fascinating climbing aroid known for its dramatic leaf shape changes as it matures. Juvenile leaves start small and heart-shaped, but as the plant climbs and gains size, the foliage becomes elongated with distinct lobes, often taking on a “violin” or horse-head shape. The leaves also develop a velvety texture with bronze or reddish undertones, making this species especially appealing to collectors.
Light
Bright, indirect light is ideal. It can tolerate medium light, but brighter conditions help encourage larger leaves and stronger shape changes as the plant matures.
Water
Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil have dried out. Philodendron camposportoanum prefers evenly moist soil but should not sit in water. Good drainage is important.
Pet Safety
Not pet safe. Like other philodendrons, it contains calcium oxalate crystals and can be toxic if chewed or ingested by pets.
A climbing support such as a moss pole or plank will help this plant mature and develop its characteristic leaf shape, making it a unique and rewarding addition to any aroid collection.
