The Datejust, Rolex's most famous automatic watch, was born in 1945.
It is widely known as a watch that is instantly recognisable from its distinctive appearance.
The Datejust mechanism, which instantly changes the date at midnight, is regarded as one of Rolex's three greatest inventions, together with the Oyster case and the automatic Perpetual mechanism, and the Datejust is the culmination of a collection that has them all.
Ref.1601 is a vintage model produced between the 1960s and late 1970s.
With its fluted bezel, jubilee bracelet and bar indexes, this model established the basic design of the Datejust, which has been handed down to this day.
The beautifully cut fluted bezel is made of 18k white gold, giving it a casually luxurious look.
The dial is a glossy black gilt dial, but it has been called "tropical" due to the brown change.
It's a very beautiful tropical dial, and at first glance it looks like a wood dial.
Both the hands and the dial are still made of tritium luminous paint, and the aging is good. The alpha hand accentuates the vintage look.
The bracelet comes with a folded Jubilee bracelet that is the same age as the watch.
Only the clasp has been changed to a later jubilee bracelet marked 62510H.
