Ruth is a mythological figure that appears both in the Talmud & the Christian Old Testament who made regular appearances in common household devotional art in the 19th & early 20th centuries. She is upheld as a role model of kindness, charity, & nurturing for women, and is also one of the key figures in fraternal groups like the Order of the Eastern Star. This gorgeous, early 20th century lithograph print is dated 1901 & depicts Ruth with a scythe & a sheaf of wheat. She was in a rather sorry state when I found her: Stuck in a too-large frame with a pepto-bismal pink mat. Thankfully she was still fixed to her original, somber gray board, which I like much better. I ditched those hideous mats & put her in a smaller antique frame contemporary to the print. Excellent condition.
