Chevron beads, also known as Star Beads or Rosetta, were invented by Maria Barovier on the island of Murano, Italy, in the late 1400s. While Venetian bead techniques have roots in ancient methods, Chevron bead-making is a unique Venetian innovation. Chevron beads can have up to ten layers, with blue being the most common color. Red, green, and black variants are rarer. Over time, Chevron beads began to be produced in the Netherlands as well. The name "Chevron" refers to the bead's characteristic V-shaped pattern.
