A striking and collectible Murano Italian studio art glass vase — a postmodern limited edition work in dramatic black glass with blue, yellow, and red horizontal striping, featuring a gently rounded summit. Etched to the underside "MURANO", dated 1985, and numbered 69/100 — from an edition of only 100 pieces worldwide. Attributed to the studio of Lino Tagliapietra, the most celebrated Murano glass maestro of the 20th century.
This vase is the companion piece to our pair of Tagliapietra-attributed Murano decanters (MCM-031) — all three works share the same bold postmodern aesthetic, identical 1985 dating, matching etched Murano markings, and the same graphic horizontal banding that defines this series. Together they represent an exceptional opportunity to acquire a cohesive group of Murano studio glass from this important moment in Italian design history.
Lino Tagliapietra (born 1934) is universally recognized as the greatest living Venetian glass maestro. His work is held in over 50 major museum collections worldwide including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the Corning Museum of Glass. His postmodern studio pieces from the 1980s command prices from $5,000 to over $100,000 at major auction houses.
