Corum was founded in 1955 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the mecca of watchmaking, by Jean-René Bannwart, who worked in the design department of Omega.
The brand's emblem, a key pointing to the sky, symbolizes "innovation" that opens new doors. The first model with a square waterproof case, "Admiral," released in 1960, remains an icon of the brand.
The brand has also produced many other masterpieces, such as the "Golden Bridge," which featured a truly revolutionary design and movement, and the "Coin Watch," released in 1964, which featured an ultra-thin movement sandwiched between a real $20 gold coin.
This watch is a vintage hand-wound dress watch made in the 1970s.
The case is made of 18K yellow gold. It is a rectangular case reminiscent of the Cartier Tank. The crown is set with a cabochon-cut blue sapphire.
The case size is 25mm wide and 32.7mm long, which is 1-2mm larger than the LM size of the vintage Tank. The rounded lugs also look very similar.
The dial is a white Roman dial with an Art Deco design featuring large Roman indexes.
The key mark, which is the symbol of the brand, is typeset and I think it makes a nice accent.
There is some slight aging overall, but it is generally in good condition.
The movement is the hand-wound ETA Cal. 2512. This is the same movement used in Cartier's 18K gold watch, and its successor, the Cal.2512-1, is called Cal.78-1 and is used in Mast Tanks and other watches.
